Mice are small, quick and mostly active at night, so the first signs are usually what they leave behind.
Mouse droppings are small, dark and pointed, about the size of a grain of rice. Unlike rats, mice leave them scattered as they move, so you’ll find them in cupboards, drawers, along skirting boards and behind appliances.
Light scratching or scurrying in walls, ceilings and under floors, especially in the evening and at night, is a common early sign.
Small holes in cereal boxes, bags of pet food and other packaging, often with crumbs and droppings nearby, point to mice.

The house mouse is small and grey-brown, with large ears, a pointed nose and a tail about as long as its body. It lives indoors all year round and is the mouse most often found in homes, kitchens and commercial buildings.
